Rockwell Collins TWR-850 Enhanced weather Radar System. The installation will significantly lower maintenance and repair costs as well as bring reliability, situational awareness and safety to a much higher level.
Certification documents for EASA approval are developed by Scandinavian Avionics Design and are being processed for operational approval in the first part of 2010. In addition to certification, Scandinavian Avionics will assist West Air Sweden with the prototype installation as well as other support as required.
The installations will be performed at West Air Sweden’s facilities in Malmoe, Sweden and are expected to continue over a longer period of time together with scheduled maintenance work on the aircraft.

10/08/09 Garmin announces new G600 capability
Our partner Garmin announces major enhancements to their G600 Retrofit Flight Display.
The original Garmin G600 has recently been introduced to the market and is a retrofit Flight Display with a dual-screen consisting of both a primary flight display (PFD) and a multi-function (MFD) display in a single 10-inch wide bezel. Scandinavian Avionics now offers the Garmin G600 with Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™) and the new GAD 43 autopilot as standard. The enhancements are incorporated immediately and the new enhanced G600 is ready for delivery and installation in the near future.
The Synthetic Vision Technology is developed by Garmin to make situational orientation easier and less stressful. The technology uses sophisticated and detailed graphics modeling to recreate a visual topographic landscape from the system’s terrain-alerting database. The resulting 3-D display provides you with a lifelike depiction of ground and water features, airports, obstacles and traffic – all shown in relative proximity to your aircraft. So, instead of a flat blue-over-brown attitude/heading reference, you’ll now see an in-depth perspective view of realistic terrain features rising into the sky. It’s like looking “through” the PFD to monitor your flight situation on a cloud-free, view-to-the-horizon backdrop.
The GAD 43 adapter unit offers enhanced autopilot interface that allows the GRS 77 to drive the autopilot in place of a gyro-mechanical attitude direction indicator (ADI). The unit provides course deviation, vertical deviation, heading bug, course pointer and ARINC 429 GPS roll-steering information to the autopilot, as appropriate. In addition, if the autopilot does not support ARINC 429 roll steering, the G600 can act as a roll steering converter via the heading input. The GAD 43 can emulate the many existing gyro interfaces (like the KI-256), using far more reliable AHRS data to provide the required attitude, heading, yaw input, baro correction, and alerting information to the autopilot. This typically enables the system’s costly ADI to be replaced on the panel with a far more affordable attitude indicator as one’s backup instrumentation.
In addition, the new GDU software 3.X includes a great number of enhancements, including: - Wind Vector Display on PFD
- Support for GAD 43 installs
- Added autopilot interface w/ GAD 43
- Track Based Reversionary HIS
- Barometric Altitude Minimums Alerting
- GWX 68 Radar interface compatibility
- Track-up support for weather pages
- TOPO & NEXRAD on Nav Map Page
- Miniature pop-ups for terrain and traffic
- Added support for Safe Taxi Hotspots
- Added configuration options
- Class-B TAWS (Fall 2009 Option)
As a Garmin key partner, Scandinavian Avionics offers complete delivery, installation and certification of the Garmin G600. If you need more information on the G600 or are interested in discussing your possibilities with Scandinavian Avionics and Garmin please do not hesitate to contact us.
